Lab Testing

Lab TestingWhat lab testing do you offer?

As a naturopathic doctor, I offer a range of lab testing including blood, urine, saliva, hair, and other diagnostics that cover a wide range of concerns, such as hormones, thyroid function, cholesterol, gynecological concerns, infection, and many more.

Please note that testing available may differ depending on my clinic location.  Here are examples of the most common types of testing I offer:

In-office:

  • Blood typing (via finger prick)
  • Gynecological testing: pap tests, vaginal swab, vaginal pH

Take-home kits:

  • Stool Microbiology profile
  • Comprehensive Stool Analysis (with or without Parasitology)
  • Saliva hormone testing
  • Adrenal function testing

By requisition, sample drawn at local lab:

  • Allergy/sensitivity testing (IgG and IgE for food, inhalants)
  • Blood tests – a wide range of tests, including:
    • Thyroid testing
    • Hormone testing
    • Nutrient testing
  • Urine tests – a wide range of tests, including:
    • Urinalysis
    • Urine culture

How were you trained in lab testing?

Naturopathic doctors are educated in interpreting lab data and are trained to perform blood draws, urinalysis, and other common lab testing as part of diagnosis and to direct treatment.

What can I expect?

Some lab tests can be done on-site, while other testing must be sent away for analysis before results become available.

Lab test results are used for assessment and treatment planning, to confirm a diagnosis, and as part of treatment evaluation.  I review all lab results with my patients to ensure that they understand the information and implications for their health.

Most frequently, I begin by obtaining a copy of most recent labwork from your medical doctor (with your consent) and review this with each patient in detail before deciding if further testing is warranted.

Why should I come to you for lab testing?

Performing necessary lab testing through your naturopathic doctor rather than relying on your medical doctor ensures that I have the information I need to create a personalized treatment plan that addresses your unique concerns.

In many cases, I will order additional testing to supplement the basic tests already done via your medical doctor – this can lead to improved diagnosis and treatment.

In some cases, my patients cannot access a medical doctor, in which case I can order most of the same testing a medical doctor can.
